Gambling State Planning Betplay Framework
Complete the plan while calm and before depositing. Record it somewhere you can review after every session.
What Is Gambling State Planning?
Gambling state planning is a simple pre-commitment process. You define the money, time, emotional condition, and stop rules that must be satisfied before play starts. The plan should be specific enough to answer four questions: Can I afford this? How long will I play? What loss ends the session? What signs mean I should stop completely?
Set an Affordable Entertainment Budget
Start with income after housing, food, utilities, transport, debt, savings, and family obligations. Gambling receives only a small part of genuine disposable income. Never include borrowed money, credit, emergency savings, business funds, or money needed later in the month. A zero budget is the correct budget when finances are under pressure.
Define Deposit and Loss Limits
A deposit limit controls money entering the account, while a loss limit controls the amount you are prepared to lose. Set both. The loss limit should be lower than the deposit limit where possible, and it should apply across all gambling sites, not only one account. Reaching the limit ends play without exception.
Set Time and Session Rules
Choose a start time, end time, and break interval. Use an alarm outside the gambling app. Avoid late-night sessions and do not play when tired, distressed, intoxicated, or trying to recover a previous loss. A session should end when the timer expires even if funds remain.
Track Your Activity
Record deposits, withdrawals, wins, losses, session length, and mood. Review totals weekly and monthly using bank statements and operator history. Do not count pending bonuses or unrealised wins as income. If records are incomplete, pause until you can establish the true amount spent.
Use Stop Rules
Stop immediately after reaching a money or time limit, after hiding activity, after borrowing, after conflict with another person, or after a strong urge to chase. A repeated breach should trigger a cooling-off period or self-exclusion rather than a larger limit.
When to Seek Help
Seek independent support when limits repeatedly fail, gambling causes distress, or stopping feels difficult. Read responsible-gambling.html and self-exclusion.html, speak with a trusted person, and contact Gambling Therapy, Gamblers Anonymous, or an appropriate local service.
